To help you find your perfect path, we've grouped the park's official trails into three easy-to-explore categories!

The Alum Creek Storybook Trail
- North End of the Beach
- 0.5 Miles
- Ultra-Easy
This trail brings children's books to life! Full-color storybook pages are mounted on panels spaced along the trail so kids can read a story as they walk. It features a "Little Free Library" at the trailhead where you can take or swap a book.
RVer Tip: The parking lot at the beach is massive. It is incredibly easy to pull in and out with a large motorhome.

The Heritage of Freedom Trail
- New Galena Ramp
- 0.75 Miles
- Easy
This powerful interpretive loop honors the local history of the Underground Railroad. Walkers learn about the 19th-century free Black community of Africa, Ohio, and how freedom seekers utilized the natural "Sycamore Trail" along the creek bed.

Hollenback Trail
- Marina (West Side)
- 1.5 Miles
- Easy
A light, highly accessible loop that meanders through the woods near the marina docks. It's an excellent choice if you want to pair a quick morning walk with a visit to Lakeside Grill & Chill or boat rental fleet.

Park Office Trail
- Park Office
- 1.5 Miles
- Easy
A quiet, low-traffic trail that circles the main park office fields and woodlots. It is regularly packed with local wildlife, making it one of the absolute best spots in the park to glimpse white-tailed deer.

Maple Glen Trail
- Southern Park End
- 1.2 Miles
- Easy
This trail showcases Ohio's stunning maple and beech trees. It features beautiful wooden footbridges over small ravines and is absolutely spectacular in October when the vibrant fall colors peak.

The Rocks and Roots Trail
- Near Marina Area
- 4.1 Miles
- Moderate
Built and maintained by local trail runners, this is the premier traditional hiking trail at Alum Creek. True to its name, you will navigate rocks, tree roots, and steep ravines.
Insider Tip: If you are staying at the campground, sections of this trail can be accessed directly from your loop!

The Multi-Purpose Trail
- Galena Launch
- 5.0 Miles
- Easy / Long
This wide, open trail is used for cross-country skiing in the winter and serves as an exceptional distance-hiking trail in the summer.
Insider Tip: Because it is a wide grass path, it can get muddy after a heavy rainstorm.
